Tasmania Day 4, 23/2/26. Hobart to Mayfield Conservation Reserve

Image
Picked up our wheels from near the airport, and me driving,  set off to Richmond. They'd upgraded us as our booked van was not available anymore, so now have toilet and shower, but less usable space.  Richmond Bridge and town was as nice as last time I was there, and we had perfect weather for Naarahs first photo shoot of the day. Found a very nice bakery, trying the vanilla slice and a fruit Danish,  both passed the taste test and lived up to the awards. Feeling more comfortable driving now, off to Sorell to stick up the fridge with goodies. Dropped into the Saltworks historic site,  then to Mayfield Bay. Free camp, but only just managed to squeeze into a site when we asked a lovely fellow camper if we could park where he had his kayak. Best of all was the stunning scenery on the drive, not able to stop at many places, but did pull over at Raspins Beach for lunch. Able to watch the sun set out of the back of the van. View from in bed. Three Arch Bridge, not ve...

Tasmania Day 3, 22/2/26. Mt Wellington

Off to the Mt, suitably prepared for inclement weather with a cold front forecast with chance of a thunderstorm. Warmed up by walking into central Hobart, then caught our bus to the top. Tony our bus driver gave us the spiel, suitably interlaced with jokes. Naarah and caught them , but international visitors didn't seem to, and would go home saying that "Tasmania is banning round bales of hay because cattle weren't getting a square feed of hay". Was blowing a gale on top, gusts to 70 km, but we still decided to walk all the way down as figured once we were in the trees we would be more protected,  which proved correct. At least we got the views as beautiful and sunny until clouds came after 30 minutes. Stopped in the Snowgums for our morning tea, then at the chalet for remaining flask tea, and to give our creaky knees a break from all thd downhills!! Walked the organ pipe track as we descended,  watching climbers risking life and limb, not for this girl!!!  Then dow...

Tasmania, Hobart, 21/2/26

Even on holidays we can't sleep in, so up having a nice cup of tea by about 5 AM, enjoying the lovely little garden again. First stop Salamanca Markets, started our step challenge for the day by walking down to the markets. Firstly found all the "rev heads toys" lined up being inspected.  Then wandered through the markets, much busier then when I was last there. Tried a scallop skewer, yummy!!! Then had pastries and a cuppa. Tip if you want somewhere quiet to eat, duck off into one of the little side alleys in Salamanca Arts Centre, there's a lovely little courtyard, with table, chairs and a bench area, with amenities close by too. Didn't buy anything else, being mindful of weight limits on planes 😒. Then walked to Museum stopping to pet a dog on the way! Sculpture of huskies that played a huge role in Antarctica exploration. Replica of Mawson's hut. Salamanca market from Ocean end looking up to Mt Wellington.  Enjoyed the museum, found some nice pottery and...
