Tasmania Day 8 Myrtle Park Camping and Recreation Ground

Image
So we scored a rest morning/day at the campground, did our washing, had gentle walks on level ground, played games, and chatted to everyone who walked past our spot, as we lurked outside the laundry monitoring our charging devices. But there's a plan in everything, as positively informed of a nice campground where we could see fairy penguins, so booked into there after our night in Launceston. Chilling, washing drying on rope strung between posts, sunny and windy so all dried quickly.  Van arrived early at 1430, so quickly disembowelled the other one of all our possessions , then loaded them into the new van. Exactly thd same model but much younger, and left, and what did we find, now the phone doing google maps actually charged! At, least still had time to drive to Launceston heading straight for Cataract gorge. I'm sure google maps decided the steepest suburban streets were the best to challenge my driving, and the new van's capabilities on route to the gorge. Enjoyed o...

Tasmania, Day 7, Cosy Corner South to Myrtle Park Campground

Today we were going to experience " The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.” Setting off from Cosy Corner South, where we'd had a pleasant night, our plans were to take the longer route to Myrtle Campground,  however after I noticed a couple if episodes of "limpness" in the acceleration of the van,  we changed our plans so we were not on such a remote route.  Visited the pretty Halls falls, and stopped at the Big Thumb for lunch in Scottsdale, I like these Tasmania country town parks, with nice sheltered tables. We then had the van stop on us once, so r ang our company who informed us to do a diesel Particulate burn, a bit of a complicated routine involving lots of engine off and on etc, which he cheerfully informed me, he found very hard to do properly,  and it didn't always work! Not exactly inspiring!! DPB done, we set off again, only way to find out if that's the problem is to keep driving. So on our way again, all seemingly to go well til aft...

Tasmania Day 6, 25/2/26. Freycinet NP to Bay of Fires.

Cameras ready off we went. First stop Bicheno blowhole, which was performing as tides higher, but very hard to catch with a still photo Showing a small blow! We then continued on up the coast stopping frequently at any vantage points until we reached The Gardens, our final point as roads end,  and the inland route to  Eddystone lighthouse was out of bounds due to being gravel. Need your own car to really explore everywhere. Loved the colours! Even found a seal sunbathing. He/she picked the best spot. After our fill of various rocks decided to head to our campground, Cosy Corner South, and try to to get in earlier to get a good spot. Still had to drive around a few times as very busy. Nice bushy spot, with enough trees to separate everybody. Set up,  then I went fishing  while Naarah was photographing,  she had much more success then I, the fish proving very hard to catch, a a small travel rod not really made for a beach. But still nice fun trying. Naarah h...

Tasmania Day 5, 24/2/26, Mayfield Bay to Freycinet NP.

After a decent night's sleep, never know how you'll go on a different bed, we were up and ready for a other day's exploring. Was looking good weather wise so straight to Freycinet NP, where fortified with tea and snacks we started the Wineglass Bay lookout walk. Continued on down the 1000 steps, or so the sign said, and instead of walking back up them walked around the coastline on the Hazards beach track.  Naarah, the 2 minutes she was in. The water was chilly, as overcast and windy. I did get wet though, but moved up the beach as this spot was too dangerous, under that wave there was a really steep drop off and strong undercurrent.  The steps. Overlooking Wineglass Bay, due to overcast conditions the colours were muted. It was cold at Wineglass Bay when we swam, but it certainly got hotter on the walk, being fairly protected from the  coastal breezes. Glad to get back and have a very late lunch. Checked into Big4 Iluka on Freycinet Holiday Park, where we just glad...
