2025.10.01, Rottnest Island

Ive put photos in wrong place, learning!! Walking down to the beach at Henrietta Rocks.

Visiting Rottnest Island or Wadjemup as it is also known was on our wish lists, so off we went. Ferry over was smooth, only mild seasickness for me. We managed to get top level seats with good views.  As viewing quokkas was top of the list we were happy to tick that off straight away whilst having our morning cuppas. Even though Quokkas are normally nocturnal, they unfortunately have learnt that cafes are a prime source of unhealthy human food, and are there to get whatever hits the ground. Competition is fierce with the crows and seagulls.

Trying to cadge some food.
Mumma and baby.
Even scored free icypole on way over.
Anchor.
Off on our Quokka coach we went to Henrietta Rocks,  then had a lovely walk along the beach to Porpoise Bay. No porpoises spotted but we did see pied oystercatchers, Australian shelducks,   ? Kestrels and other shorebirds. Even saw one dive into waves and catch a fish, too busy watching to take a video.

After that rejoined the road with the many cyclists, some other walkers and our buses, and a very pretty road it was to walk along.
Even though beautiful weather, and definitely not too hot, the water looked so good we were persuaded to swim again, so joined the brave others at Little Salmon Bay. Where, though cold, it didn't feel as cold as at Cottesloe beach. Then a nice picnic lunch in the sun to warm up.

Scenery was stunning, the darks in the water, from underwater seaweeds and the patches of crystal clear water for contrast. Was lovely to see the flora as well.

Then did the tour of the lighthouse, with views of the whole island.

Then unable to absorb any more views, and not wanting to miss the last hop on, hop off bus we made our way back to our lean mean blue machine, the Sealink ferry, home. Spotted dolphins and a whale breach from the ferry. Finished our day out with dinner out at Cicerello's, with the largest seafood platter I've ever seen and eaten.

Aquarium in the restaurant.
And had to finish with the adorable quokkas!!
These ones doing what they should be doing in daytime ~ sleeping. Which is what these 3 adventurers need to do. Good night.

  1. Loving your updates and yes, the Southern coastline is so different from Qld's coastline. Good to see the flowers are out for you too.
