2025.10.07. Albany
Made our plans, Sue and I started with a walk from Middleton beach around the Coastal walking track to the historical precinct of York st Albany. Was chilly but nice, protected in parts by the coastal heath, and then enjoyed the brisk breeze in other parts.
Signs along the way explained relevant history relating to settlers, ships etc. Were definitely ready for sustenance and a hot drink by the time we got to Gourmandise & Co. Lovely cuppa, and food as well.
Had to check out some shops while were here so did our duty to support the local businesses on York St, such a hard job!
Next we regrouped and drove to the The Great Southern Museum, where there's a replica of the Brig Amity, and other historical stuff. I found it hard to imagine how terrible it must of been on a ship like it sailing all that way, definitely not cruising in style.
.I don't mind heights but climbing up there in a gale would be beyond me.We'll get there, Sue's steering.
Incidentally it's the time of the local Art Trail, so lots of exhibitions of paintings etc, in the historical buildings. Then, although windy with squally showers went to The Gap and The Natural Bridge in Torndirrup Nationl Park on the Southerly side of Australia below Albany, and the gale felt like it was from Antarctica!!
Tough plants.
Suitably frozen and windblown we then went to Goode Beach, had to go there because of the name, and although swimming would of been a hazard to my health, I did paddle. The beach was still very beautiful.
Ignore the people, but there is a nice warm fire behind the man in yellow.
And that's all, worn out we went home.

I love the coastline around Albany, so different from Qld but always cold!! But you'd appreciate those hot drinks and warm fires.
