Day 14, 5/3/26, Mt Field National Patk

Up early the next morning we had a special wildlife encounter. The local spotted quoll doing his morning round of all the campsites,  hoping to find some tasty leftover morsels. Made our morning anyway.

Time to fit in  another waterfall, stretched out legs with a 20 minute walk to Nelson Falls. More windy roads  so took a break to walk to the suspension bridge on the Frenchman's cap walk, its on the beginning of a multiday hike in the remote Franklin Gordon National Park area. Would be a great walk to do. Another hike a bit further along was the Franklin River nature trail, very pretty. Then on to Lake St Claire where the Overland track ends, and were able to refill out water containers.

The Wall in the Wilderness lived up to all expectations, one man's very clever use of timber, and extreme skill in carving has created this unique pictorial record of Australian history. No photographs allowed, so to see an example you have to google it, or visit, is preferable

Then we went on a wild goose chase to the geographical centre of Tasmania,  Bronte is the place, so off we went, but no plaque etc, so had our lunch at a park, then asked at the little shop to find out it is further along on the main road, not actually in Bronte, the little 'town'.

By this time I was getting tired, so a cuppa in Ouse seemed like a good idea before we finished out trip at Mt Field National Park. Very busy there, no camping spots left, but there's a new campsite called Russell Falls holiday cabins, with nice camping sites, hot showers etc., so we found a spot then walked into Mt Field National Park to see to Russell Falls. Definitely drier at this time of year to when last visited in spring and there'd been winter rain.

Glad to have a nice hot shower,  tuck ourselves into a level bed, and get a good night's sleep.
