Day 10, 4/10/26. Onwards to New Abedour.

After another sunny start to the day, Naarah's turn to head down to the beach for morning sunrise pictures, we thought google had led us astray as we tried to find Sunnyside cave. Took us down this more dodgy road, where it then became private road, and most of the spots seemed to have no parking signs, understandably as it gave the farmer access to his fields, and if he's driving a big tractor, I think we'll abide by the rules! Squeezed our car in a spot, and then wandered on foot through the private farm, but there was a sign that said beach, so we presumed we were on the right track. This time the sun gave up on us, and we got squally rain instead, at risk of Naarah and I becoming airborne with our trek shield rain coats, we safely made it to the cave area. However due to high tide, it was full of water, and much too dangerous to get anywhere close, I did make it down the goat track as much as I dared, but even Naarah and Tony weren't going to do that!

Wild coastlines.

Then, because we're in Scotland, and what is there to see but another castle, off we drove to Fraser Castle. We had a bit of a debate over this, as another choice was a garden, I won, and we were all glad I did. We'd wanted to see a castle that wasn't in ruins, and wasn't just more like a museum. Fraser castle has been restored, though it' s a work in progress, and is decorated according to what it would of looked like when the last Fraser lived there after he came home from a war versus the French, minus a leg! Must have had strong servants to carry him up and down stairs, or he got very good biceps and a strong leg from hopping up  and down! It was very nice to see, and as there is a garden there Naarah was happy about that too. Unlike all the other castles we've been it, it wasn't freezing cold either. After all that exploring, we found a lovely spot actually at a picnic table in the grounds to have our salad sandwiches before negotiating the windy roads to our next destination.

Found the Forvie National Nature Reserve, and once we worked out that one squeezed the car in between the poles, just wide enough for cars, and not campervans, caravans etc to gain access to the car park we set off on our walk. The whole loop was too long, but to go to the dunes and back didn't look too bad. Only thing was, every time we reached what looked like the final dune before the beach, lo and behold there was another. At last we got there, about a 30 minute walk, done in fine drizzle and wind. Was much nicer on walk back as Mr wind was blowing us back to the car. The seals did not appear, so had to content ourselves with windswept beaches and dunes and the remnants of an old bothy. I can only imagine how tough it would of been to live there with the constant winds and wild weather.
