Day 5, 29/09, Edinburgh, Scotland

Getting good at packing the car now, headed off, and once we left the highway around Huddersfield/North England, found some beautiful scenic drives. White Fluffy sheep, green fields and endless rows of stone fences marching across the hills. Having moved rocks for our tiny, in comparison,  gabions up the farm, I admire the hard work over the  centuries to build them ~ oooooh the crushed and grazed fingers!

The yew trees. The stories they could tell.
Fireplaces big enough to roast,  one or more whole animals.

Rock walls, very few places to pull over to get good photos,  so get the moving shots.
Castle views
Mmmm, wouldn't have done that centuries ago.
Creative "window"

Mary Queen of Scots was here.

We were on a time schedule as booked into Craig Millar castle for 13:30, however we scored one of the 8 carparks, and were allowed early entry. It was not busy. It's a work in progress as they restore it, no doubt helped by notoriety of being used in the series Outlander. Can't help thinking how cold these castles would of been, even with their fireplaces. Loved the central courtyard, with the big yew trees, and the views. Had a picnic at an actual picnic table in the grounds, before driving into Edinburgh.

We weren't meant to ascend the Arthur's seat, as no parking, and we weren't going to walk kms even before the steepest ascent, so went to try the botanical gardens instead. Again, we had to pay via a app, and as they send confirmation to normal phone number via normal text, that wouldn't work either. Oh the joys of travel. Decided we were meant to rest, so instead off to our accommodation at Dovetshill farm. Little and cute, and really is on a farm. Their dog welcomed us enthusiastically and so did the cat. Tony and Naarah weren't game,  but I soaked in the hot tub, very relaxing!!

Water at a balmy 39 degrees.
Our little cottage, we were just this end of the single storey part
The horses accommodation.

Idyllic farm scenes.
